Summer at Los Cangrejos (Open-Air Cultural Programme)
A free open-air summer programme in a Nerja park, with flamenco, jazz, musicals, dance, magic, theatre and children's activities on warm August evenings. A laid-back way to catch live culture under the stars without buying a ticket.
All through August, the little Parque Plaza de los Cangrejos turns into Nerja's open-air stage, and the whole thing is run by the town for free. There's no single big name; instead you get a different act most evenings, flamenco one night, a local dance academy or jazz the next, then a magic show, a choir, theatre or poetry. Shows tend to start at 22.00, once the worst of the heat has gone and the kids are still happily up.
It's an easygoing, family-leaning evening rather than a slick concert. Sundays usually kick off earlier, around 21.00, with activities aimed at younger children. Dates shift year to year, so check the listings before you wander down. Bring a bit of patience for Spanish start times and you've a cheap, pleasant way to spend a warm night out.
