Tuesday is market day in Arguineguín. From around 8.30am roughly 170 stalls spread along the seafront beside the harbour and Las Marañuelas beach, and they don't pack up until mid-afternoon. You'll find trestle tables of tomatoes and Canarian potatoes, racks of summer dresses and linen, leather sandals, costume jewellery, and the usual scatter of sunglasses and beach towels aimed at holidaymakers. Cheese, cured meats and nuts give you something to nibble as you wander, and a bit of friendly haggling on the clothes and trinkets is part of the fun.
It's a flat, easy stroll, which is why it draws so many of the area's British and Northern European residents alongside day-trippers. Go early to beat the heat and the coach crowds, bring cash, and leave time afterwards for a coffee by the fishing harbour.
