Aires de Telde: A Sky of Mandalas
A free open-air installation that fills the historic Rincon Placido Fleitas with a colourful canopy of hand-crafted mandalas made by the Tejedores de Telde collective. A photogenic stop while wandering the old town during the San Juan fiestas; last year it was one of the most-visited spots of the festival.
Wander into the Rincon Placido Fleitas, the little square tucked beside Plaza de San Juan in Telde's old town, and you'll find yourself walking under a ceiling of mandalas. They're strung overhead, each one woven by hand by the local Tejedores de Telde collective in bright, looping patterns. The sun catches them and throws colour across the cobbles, which is why half the people standing there have their phones pointed straight up.
It's free, it's outdoors, and it stays up through the San Juan fiestas, so you can drop by whenever you happen to be passing. This is its second year running after the first proved a real crowd-pleaser. Worth a short detour if you're exploring the old quarter, and a good spot to pause in the shade for a few minutes.
