24th Santa Gertrudis Folk Festival
A free open-air evening of traditional music and dance in the pretty village square of Santa Gertrudis, with folk groups from Lanzarote, Northern Cyprus and the local Ibizan dance group. Just turn up and watch.
Santa Gertrudis is one of those whitewashed inland villages people drift through for lunch, and on this one June evening its square turns into an open-air stage. Things kick off around nine, once the heat has eased off, with three folk groups taking turns: dancers from Lanzarote, a troupe over from Northern Cyprus, and the village's own Ibizan group in their traditional dress. Expect drums, pipes, castanets and a lot of footwork.
It's free, there's no fuss, and you simply turn up and find a spot. Grab a drink from one of the bars ringing the plaça beforehand, because they fill up fast. Bring something warmer than you'd think for an island summer night, and don't expect it to start exactly on time.
