Santa Eulària des Riu sits on the east coast of Ibiza, the most family-minded of the island's main towns and a world away from the West End and the superclubs. It takes its name from the only proper river in the Balearics, has a pretty marina and a long promenade, and is overlooked by the fortified hilltop church of Puig de Missa. Inland lie quiet villages like Santa Gertrudis, and the island's craft and folk traditions stay close to the surface here.
