Patron Saint Festival of Our Lady of Los Remedios
Los Llanos' biggest annual celebration honouring its patron, Our Lady of Los Remedios, spanning late June into July with around 40 cultural, religious and sporting events. The headline day is 2 July, when the traditional procession and the 'Loa a la Virgen' fill the Plaza de España; the octave closes the festivities on 8 July.
If you're on La Palma in early July, Los Llanos throws everything at this one. Around forty events run from late June, taking in a coronation gala, the Aridane+Dance line-up of Spanish and international acts, a leg of the Canarias Jazz & Más festival, and a beach crossing for the swimmers. There's even a classic car show if motors are more your thing.
The 2nd of July is the day that matters, though. The Virgin is carried in procession through the Plaza de España, followed by the Loa a la Virgen, a spoken, half-theatrical tribute to the patron that's been performed here for generations. Things wind down over the following week, closing with the octave on the 8th. It's free, it's local, and you'll be among Palmeros rather than tour groups.
