Día de Canarias is the islands' big day, and San Andrés y Sauces marks it the local way: an open-air concert in the Plaza de Montserrat as the evening cools off. It's a small, unhurried affair, the sort of thing families wander down to rather than queue for. The home crowd turns out for the Agrupación Tendal, a Sauces folk ensemble who play the traditional Canarian repertoire, with Candela & Son, a band over from Toledo on the mainland, sharing the bill.
Entry is free and you'll be among locals more than tourists, which is rather the point. Expect timple strings, sung verses and the gentle pull of a village square on a warm night. It usually lands around 30 May each year, with music kicking off in the evening. Bring nothing but yourself and maybe a jacket for later.
