Canarian Folk Dance & Timple Showcase (Year-End)
An open-air showcase by Tijarafe's municipal folklore dance school and timple (small Canarian guitar) workshop, performing traditional island music and dance in the village square. A free, easy-to-enjoy taste of local Canarian culture.
This is the end-of-year turn-out for Tijarafe's municipal dance school and timple workshop, when the students bring everything they've learned over the year to the village square. The timple is the little five-string Canarian guitar, bright and almost tinny, and it carries the rhythm while the dancers work through the island's traditional folk steps. It all takes place outdoors in Plaza de La Paz, the central plaza, on a June evening from around 7pm.
Don't expect a slick professional show. These are local performers of all ages playing for their own community, and that's rather the point. It's free, the square fills up with families, and you can simply turn up, find a spot and watch. A relaxed, genuine slice of Canarian culture if you happen to be on La Palma.
