Trail La Vegueta 2026 (12th Edition)
Lanzarote's 12th La Vegueta trail run across volcanic terrain, with 10.5km and 5km races, a hiking option and a children's race; over 400 runners took part last year. Fun to watch or run, though sign-up is in Spanish via traillavegueta.com.
This is one of those small-town running weekends where the whole village seems to turn out. It's tied to Tinajo's Our Lady of Regla festival, so there's a proper local feel to it rather than a slick commercial race. Things kick off on the Friday with bib collection and the children's race, the cheerfully named Chinijos Trail La Vegueta, before the grown-up distances on Saturday morning.
Runners can take on the 10.5km route, which counts towards Tinajo's Popular Races Cup, or the shorter 5km, and there's a walking option if you fancy the scenery without the racing. The course winds through Lanzarote's strange volcanic landscape, all black soil and low whitewashed houses. Over 400 took part last year, families and friends included, so it's an easy, good-natured morning to watch even if you're just there for the cheering. Entry closes a couple of days beforehand, and sign-up runs in Spanish.
