Sant Joan Herbs (Hierbas) Workshop
A hands-on community workshop on making traditional Mallorcan Sant Joan herbal liqueur (hierbas), run by a local retirees' group. Bring an empty bottle to take your batch home. A charming local custom, though the session runs in Catalan/Spanish.
Hierbas is the herbal liqueur you'll see locals sip after dinner all over Mallorca, and around Sant Joan a few of them still make it the old way. This evening session in the little square behind Muro's church, in front of the library, is run by a retirees' group who clearly know what they're doing: you fill your bottle with the herbs and spirit, then take it home to mellow.
The practicalities are simple. Bring an empty bottle, because that's how you carry your batch away, and don't expect any English. The whole thing happens in Catalan, with plenty of gesturing and good humour, so you'll follow along well enough by watching your neighbour. It falls in mid-June, near Sant Joan, and it's the sort of quietly local evening you stumble into rather than plan for.
