8th Camí de Ferro Trail Run & Hike (Palma–Sóller)
An evening trail running and hiking event following the historic 'iron road' through the Serra de Tramuntana to Sóller, with a 27 km route from Palma, a 13 km route from Bunyola, and a 13 km popular walking option. A scenic late-summer-evening challenge for active visitors and walkers.
There's a reason they start this one at half eight in the evening. You set off from Palma as the heat drops, then climb up and over the Tramuntana on the old paths that shadow the railway line into Sóller. By the time you reach the valley the light's nearly gone, the orange groves smell of dusk, and the town is waiting at the bottom with its tram and its square.
Pick your poison: the full 27km haul from Palma, the shorter 13km from Bunyola, or the popular walking version if running mountain trails in the dark isn't quite your idea of a holiday. The walkers head off a quarter of an hour after the runners. It's properly organised, chip-timed, and the finish in Sóller is a fine place to arrive on tired legs. Bring a head torch and decent shoes.
