Sa Fira & Es Firó (Moors and Christians Battle Festival)
Sóller's biggest fiesta, mixing the Sunday fair (Sa Fira) of market stalls, farm animals, food, wine, music and traditional Mallorcan costume with Es Firó, a dramatic mock battle re-enacting the town's 1561 defence against Ottoman and Barbary corsairs. A spectacular, deeply local celebration. The 2026 edition has passed; the next runs in May 2027.
The week builds slowly: folk dancing in the square, flower displays, giant paper figures wobbling through the streets, late concerts, a solemn procession for the Mare de Déu de la Victòria. Sunday brings the fair proper, with livestock, vintage cars and horses kicking up dust in the Plaça Constitució. Then Monday everything goes loud.
Church bells start clanging in the afternoon to warn of corsair ships, and the town spends the next few hours re-enacting its 1561 defence. Locals dressed as peasants, outlaws and Moors fight running battles from the port up into Sóller, all smoke, blank-firing muskets and proper pyrotechnics. It's chaotic, blackened-faced and genuinely thrilling, far more village affair than tourist show. The 2026 edition has been and gone; the next runs around May 2027.
