Es Mercadal Summer Night Market
A lively open-air night market filling the historic streets of Es Mercadal every Thursday evening through the summer, with over 70 craft and local food stalls plus 30 participating shops. Live music acts perform each week, making it an easy, atmospheric evening out.
Come Thursday evening in summer, Es Mercadal closes its central streets to traffic and the whole town drifts out for a wander. Stalls run from roughly 7pm until half eleven, so there's no rush. You'll find Menorcan cheeses and cured meats, honey, leather sandals and handmade odds and ends, plus the local shops setting up their own tables outside. A band or a school dance troupe usually plays somewhere along the way, and the sound carries.
It's an easy, unhurried sort of night out rather than a big production. Wander, graze, pick up something for the kitchen, let the kids run about. Entry is free. The town does fill up, so leave the car at the fairground or the pool car park and walk in.
