Compania Marco Flores - Rayuela (Flamenco Dance)
National Flamenco Dance Prize winner Marco Flores presents 'Rayuela', a flamenco work inspired by Julio Cortazar's novel, with live cante and guitar. A visually striking show exploring the path between earth and sky.
The clever conceit here is hopscotch. Marco Flores takes the children's chalk game and turns it into a meditation on getting things wrong, starting over, and reaching for something you can sense but can't quite name. It comes from Julio Cortazar's novel, though you needn't have read a word of it to follow what's happening on stage. The footwork does the talking.
Flores is one of the most decorated flamenco dancers working today, and he doesn't perform to a backing track. A singer and a guitarist share the stage with him, so the cante rises and breaks in real time alongside the dancing. No surtitles needed, no Spanish required. It's the kind of show that lands even if you've simply always meant to see some flamenco properly. The 8.30pm start leaves your evening open afterwards.
