Fiestas of San Pedro Apostol (Patron Saint Festival)
El Sauzal's main patron-saint fiesta, peaking on 29 June with a solemn Mass and procession through the old town, followed by a week of open-air concerts, Canarian folk nights, verbenas (village dances) and a closing fireworks display. Lively, free and very local.
El Sauzal is a small town on Tenerife's quieter north coast, and for one week each summer it hands itself over to its patron saint. The serious part lands on 29 June: a Mass at the Iglesia de San Pedro Apostol, then a procession that carries the saint through the old streets behind drums and brass, with neighbours leaning out of doorways to watch.
After that the mood loosens right up. Evenings fill the Plaza del Principe and Plaza de San Pedro with open-air concerts, Canarian folk nights of timple and parranda singing, and verbenas that keep the village dancing well past midnight. A fireworks display sees the whole thing off. It costs nothing, it's run by and for locals, and that's rather the point.
