Fiestas of the Virgen de los Angeles
A late-summer village fiesta around the Ermita de los Angeles, with evening religious processions, a live performance by Canarian singer Chago Melian and a fireworks display. The full programme is published closer to the dates and usually adds verbena dances and concerts.
El Sauzal does what these northern Tenerife villages do best each summer: turns out for its patron saint with five days of evening processions, music and noise around the little Ermita de los Angeles. The religious side kicks off about eight in the evening at the shrine, followed by the saint carried through the streets, then live music and a fireworks display once it's dark.
This year the headline turn is Canarian singer Chago Melian, so expect a crowd that's mostly local rather than tourist. The fuller programme, with the late-night verbena dances and a few more concerts, tends to land closer to the dates. It's all free, and it's the kind of thing worth wandering up for if you're staying nearby and fancy an evening that isn't aimed at holidaymakers at all.
