8th Caña Solidaria (El Medano Charity Beer & Music Festival)
A two-day open-air charity festival in El Medano's seafront plaza with live music, DJs, Canarian folk performances, food and drink stalls, and kids' activities; all proceeds fund education and health projects in Gambia. Easy to just turn up and enjoy beside the beach.
The clue is in the name: a caña is a small glass of beer, and this is a festival built around buying a few and knowing every euro goes somewhere good. For two days the seafront plaza fills with local orchestras, live bands, DJs running on into the small hours (past two on the Friday, past three on the Saturday), and folk groups doing the proper Canarian stuff — stick dancing, parranda, even a bit of the whistled Gomero language if you catch the right slot.
Days lean gentler and family-friendly: bouncy castles and a clown on the Friday, a play area and dance masterclasses on the Saturday. It's the easy kind of outing where you wander down from the beach, grab a drink and a bite, and stay longer than you meant to. All the takings fund a long-running education and health project in Gambia, which makes the whole thing sit rather nicely.
