Granadilla de Abona Main Fiestas (San Antonio de Padua & Virgen del Rosario)

For a couple of weeks each spring, this old hill town in southern Tenerife throws everything it has at honouring San Antonio de Padua and the Virgen del Rosario. The centrepiece is the Romeria, an ox-cart pilgrimage where locals turn out in full Canarian dress, hand round food and wine to anyone passing, and follow the timple and folk groups through the historic streets. The Luminarias bonfires, brought back to life by residents of a couple of the town's roads, give the whole thing its smoky, late-night heart.

Alongside the religious side there's a sizeable crafts and gastronomy fair selling island-made goods and Canarian cooking, beauty-queen galas, and a run of concerts. Veteran folk choir Los Sabandenos usually anchor the bill. It's free, properly local, and warmly welcoming to outsiders. The next edition lands around late May 2027.
