The heart of it is the romeria itself: teams of oxen haul wooden carts dressed up with seeds, grain and greenery through the streets of Tegueste, while families walk alongside in full Canarian costume. There's folk music more or less wherever you stand, plenty of local wine being handed round, and the livestock get a formal blessing on their way to the Plaza de San Marcos. Locals will tell you it's one of the more genuine pilgrimages in the islands, and it does feel that way.
Around the main Sunday the town runs a long stretch of related events through late April and early May, from farmers' markets and wine tastings to Canarian wrestling and the boisterous Baile de Magos. The April 2026 edition has been and gone; it comes back each year on the last Sunday of April, so aim for late April 2027. Entry is free.
