What's on in Arico

Arico is a large, thinly populated municipality on the dry south-east of Tenerife, running from a historic hill village down through ravines and badlands to the small coastal settlement of Porís de Abona, with its little harbour and lighthouse. It's an arid, big-skied corner of the island, prized for some of the darkest night skies in Spain and a handful of quiet, undeveloped beaches. Tourism is light; daily life is rural and low-key.

Local culture carries the calendar: the Porís de Abona book fair, "Pollinating Reading", and the first edition of the "Arico Handmade" craft fair. Here's what's on while you're here.
