What's on in Peñíscola

Peñíscola is one of the most striking towns on the Costa del Azahar — a walled old town piled onto a rocky promontory that juts into the sea, crowned by the castle of Pope Benedict XIII, the antipope "Papa Luna" who ended his days here. Below the ramparts, narrow lanes tumble down to the harbour and a long sweep of beach. You may recognise it from the screen; it stood in for Meereen in Game of Thrones.

The fishing heritage still shows in the San Pedro festivity, the fishermen's patron saint. Alongside it, the long-running Peñíscola International Jazz Festival brings music to the old town, and there's beach volleyball and folk concerts through the summer. Here's what's on while you're here.
