What's on in Teguise

Teguise sits inland on Lanzarote, the island's former capital, a low sweep of flat-roofed houses and old mansions around a wide central square and the church of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. It feels stately and quiet for most of the week, then comes alive every Sunday for the big market that draws people from across the island. The wider municipality stretches north to the surf and the dunes at Famara, one of the great long beaches on the island.

That beach hosts the Famara Total trail run, while the town square fills for the Bio Ritmos world music festival and the occasional art show, such as Sebastiano Navarra's "Flores de la Amazonas" exhibition. The Sunday market remains the steady weekly draw. Here's what's on while you're here.
