What's on in Torroella de Montgrí

Torroella de Montgrí is really two places: the old inland town below the ruined Montgrí castle on its bare hill, and L'Estartit, the seaside half down on the Costa Brava with a marina and a long beach. Out to sea lie the Medes Islands, a protected marine reserve that makes this one of the best spots for diving and snorkelling on the Catalan coast. The inland town keeps a medieval square and a strong music tradition; the coast is geared to summer.

Down in L'Estartit, the Santa Anna town festival is the high point of the season, alongside the playful Beatles Weekend, a beach volleyball tournament and Havaneres and cremat — sea shanties with burnt rum — at La Llevantina. Here's what's on while you're here.
