What's on in Santanyí

Santanyí is a honey-stone market town in Mallorca's quieter south-east, set back a few miles from a string of small coves and the Mondragó natural park. The buildings are cut from the local golden sandstone, which has given the town a long tradition of stonemasonry, and the Wednesday and Saturday markets still draw farmers and craftspeople from across the area. It's slower and more rural than the resort coast — a place people come to potter, eat well and reach the beaches without the crowds.

Summer is when the town lets its hair down. The Sant Joan festival opens with the traditional Pregó and band concerts, and runs through old-fashioned games like the greased pole climb and swimming races, while the Havaneres Night with Arpellots and the White Night dinner fill the squares.
