Moros y Cristianos Dénia 2026
Dénia's spectacular Moors and Christians fiesta — costumed parades, mock battles and a landing on the beach.
Dénia's Moros y Cristianos is one of the most colourful fiestas on the northern Costa Blanca, a re-enactment of the centuries of conflict and coexistence between Moorish and Christian Spain. Declared a fiesta of National Tourist Interest, it fills the old town and seafront with thousands of magnificently costumed participants for several days each August.
What to expect. Grand parades (entradas) where the rival "armies" process through the streets in extraordinary outfits to thundering music, mock battles fought with black-powder muskets, and — the showpiece — a staged landing on the beach as the "Moors" come ashore. There's a real sense of local pride behind the spectacle.
Practical bit. Dénia sits at the foot of the Montgó mountain, roughly midway between Alicante and Valencia airports. The old town is compact and best explored on foot; arrive early for the big parades to get a good spot. A hire car is handy here, both for reaching Dénia and for exploring the pretty coves and the Jávea coast nearby.
Dates fall in mid-August around the town's patron celebrations; it's free to watch, and the atmosphere is wonderful.
