4th Fuencaliente Wine Fair
Fuencaliente's annual open-air wine fair gathers the village's local wineries in the town hall square for an afternoon of tasting Malvasia and other La Palma wines, with live music from invited artist Juan Duque. A relaxed, established summer date with no language needed to enjoy the pours.
Fuencaliente sits at the southern tip of La Palma, in wine country where the vines grow on black volcanic soil. Once a year the town hall square fills with the area's local wineries, and you spend the afternoon working your way along the stalls with a glass in hand, comparing pours from one small producer to the next. There's Malvasía and plenty else from the island to try, and the growers are usually happy to talk you through what's in the glass.
This year Juan Duque plays live, closing out his Spanish tour, so there's music to settle into once you've found a few favourites. It's an unhurried, neighbourly afternoon rather than a polished tourist event, and you don't need a word of Spanish to enjoy it. Worth the drive south if you're on the island.
