Altea Summer Artisan Night Market
Every summer evening the cobbled square beside the blue-domed church fills with stalls of handmade jewellery, ceramics, textiles and woodwork sold directly by their makers. A relaxed stroll-and-browse atmosphere in the heart of Altea's photogenic old town.
This is the slow kind of market, the sort you wander into after dinner once the heat has dropped. Around twenty makers set up around the church square, each selling work they've made themselves, so it leans more towards a small craft fair than a flea market. You'll find metal and natural-material jewellery, hand-thrown ceramics, woven textiles and carved wood, and a few of the potters sometimes work at their stalls while you watch.
It runs every evening through the summer, from early July into the first week of September, opening around 7pm and going late. Entry is free, and the whitewashed lanes and blue-tiled dome above make the setting half the appeal. Come for a proper browse, chat to the people who made things, and treat it as an excuse for an evening stroll up into the old town.
