Maria del Mar Bonet - 60 Years of Songs
Legendary Mallorcan singer-songwriter Maria del Mar Bonet celebrates a 60-year career, weaving new compositions together with the classics of her repertoire. Part of the 2026 Splendid Festival and SonsDenit programme.
Six decades on, Maria del Mar Bonet still sings in Catalan with that warm, slightly weathered voice that has carried Mediterranean folk songs across borders since the 1960s. This Maó date brings her new album, L'aigua no cansa, to the stage, threaded through with the older songs people have known for years. It is poetry set to music as much as a concert, so don't expect a singalong romp; the pleasure is in the stillness and the storytelling.
The Teatre Principal is a proper old opera house, intimate and ornate, which suits an evening like this. You won't follow every word unless your Catalan is sharp, but the feeling carries regardless. A lovely, unhurried way to spend a summer night in Menorca, surrounded by an audience who clearly grew up with these songs.
