Festes de Sant Pere (Patron Saint Festival)
Alcúdia's main summer fiesta honours Sant Pere, patron saint of fishermen, with a colourful procession of fishing boats across the bay departing from the Sant Pere church, followed by a midnight fireworks display over the beach. The days before bring open-air concerts, traditional Sarau Alcudienc folk dancing on the promenade, and beach sports.
This is Port d'Alcúdia's big summer turn, and it's the fishing fleet that steals it. On Sant Pere's day a procession of decorated boats sets out from the Sant Pere church and crosses the bay, the saint carried by the fishermen themselves with the town band in tow. Come nightfall, fireworks go up over the beach and the dancing carries on well past midnight.
The run-up is worth catching too. Expect open-air concerts on the Plaça del Varador, the Sarau Alcudienc folk group dancing traditional Mallorcan steps on the promenade, and beach volleyball and games down on the sand. There's a charity paella, and bunyols handed round with a glass of mistela. Giants get walked up to la Victòria. It's all free, plenty of it aimed at locals rather than visitors, which is rather the point.
