Portón del Jazz - Friday Jazz Nights
An open-air jazz series every Friday night in July at the Finca El Portón, with international acts such as the Eric Alexander Jazz Syndicate and the Alfredo Rodríguez Trío. Relaxed warm-evening live music that needs no Spanish to enjoy.
The setting does a lot of the work here. You're in the gardens of Finca El Portón, an estate just outside Alhaurín de la Torre, with the stage tucked among the trees and the music starting once the heat of the day has eased off. It's been running since 1997, so the organisers know how to put a programme together, and the names they pull in are genuinely top-tier rather than local fillers.
Across the four Fridays in July you might catch drummer Dave Weckl and bassist Richard Bona in a fusion quartet, saxophonist Eric Alexander's syndicate, or the Cuban pianist Alfredo Rodríguez and his trio. No Spanish required to follow any of it. Book parking ahead online, bring a layer for when the night cools, and settle in under the stars.
