Colla Larraix & Efren Lopez in Concert (25th Anniversary)

Larraix started life as a colla, the loud, joyful pairing of dolçaina (a Valencian reed pipe) and tabal drum you hear leading processions through these towns. Twenty-five years on, they mark the occasion with something more ambitious: a programme that takes those traditional instruments and threads them through music from far beyond Valencia. Director Luis Seguí is joined by Efrén López and a clutch of guest players, so expect a sound that wanders well past the usual fiesta repertoire.

It's a free evening in el Campello's Pedro Vaello auditorium, the comfortable, sit-down sort rather than a square full of standing crowds. Capacity is limited, so it's worth turning up early. You don't need to know a note of Valencian folk to enjoy where these players take it.
