Puerto de Mogán Friday Market (Mercadillo)
Gran Canaria's biggest open-air market winds along the pretty 'Little Venice' harbour and through the old town every Friday morning. Stalls sell Canarian handicrafts, leather, flowers, fresh fruit and vegetables, clothing and local food.
Friday mornings are when Puerto de Mogán wakes up properly. The market spills along the little canals and over the bridges that earned the place its "Little Venice" nickname, then carries on through the lanes of the old town. Expect stalls of Canarian leather, embroidered linen, jewellery and ceramics, trestles piled with flowers and fresh fruit and veg, racks of cheap holiday clothes, and a few stands selling local cheese, honey and other bits to eat.
It gets busy once the tour coaches arrive mid-morning, so come early if you'd rather browse in peace. Haggling is fair game on the craft and clothing stalls. When you've had enough, the harbour cafés are right there for a coffee and a long sit by the boats. Entry is free, and it runs every Friday.
