Traditional Herbal Liqueur Workshop (Hierbas Ibicencas)
Learn to make the island's classic herbal liqueur, hierbas ibicencas, using local herbs and traditional methods, led by Cristina Ferrer at a historic country house. Two free morning sessions, but you must register by email in advance and places are limited.
Most visitors meet hierbas ibicencas as the green digestif poured at the end of a long lunch, all aniseed and wild herbs. Here you get to see how it's actually put together. Cristina Ferrer walks a small group through the old island method at Ca n'Andreu des Trull, a country house near Sant Carles built around a stone olive press, so you're learning the recipe in roughly the surroundings it came from.
There are two morning sessions on Saturday 20 June, each about two hours, and both are free. The catch is numbers are tight and you have to book ahead by email, giving your name, phone and the slot you want. It's in Spanish, so a little of the language helps, but the herbs and the doing carry a lot of it. Worth the early start if you fancy taking the knack home.
