Guided Hike to Barbuzano (Walk #993)
A guided group hike to Barbuzano run by the El Atajo hiking club and Brena Baja's sports department as part of the town's regular walking programme. Sign-up is by phone in Spanish, so it suits Spanish-speaking residents more than short-stay visitors.
This is walk number 993 for the El Atajo hiking club, which gives you a sense of how long they have been heading out together. On Saturday 20 June the group makes for Barbuzano, up in the hills of Puntallana on La Palma's green eastern side, with the Galería Barbuzano as the meeting point. The club runs these outings alongside Breña Baja's sports department as part of an ongoing programme.
A word of honesty: this is a local club walk rather than a tourist excursion. Sign-up is by phone, in Spanish, either with the club (636 60 94 99) or the town hall (922 43 59 55, ext 3034). If you have the language and a decent pair of boots, it is a friendly way to see the island as residents do. If not, it is a tricky one to join.
