San Bartolomé Agricultural & Crafts Market
On the first Sunday of every month this open-air market fills San Bartolomé's main square with local farmers and artisans. Browse Lanzarote produce, handmade crafts, island wines, cheeses and home-baked pastries.
San Bartolomé sits inland, away from the resort strip, so this is the kind of morning where you mix with people who actually live on the island. On the first Sunday of each month the Plaza León y Castillo fills with stalls of Lanzarote produce: fruit and vegetables grown in the island's black volcanic soil, cheeses, jams, fresh bread and pastries. Alongside the food you'll find handmade crafts, from pottery and woodwork to glass and jewellery.
It runs from 10am to 2pm, so go on the earlier side before the day heats up. There's usually something going on beyond the shopping too, with craft workshops, traditional Canarian games for children and live music dotted through the morning. Afterwards, a wander round the square shows you a quieter, more workaday side of Lanzarote.
