Guided Hike: Descent of the Masca Gorge (Medium level)
A guided walk through Tenerife's spectacular Masca Gorge, one of the island's most iconic ravines, with bus transport included. The medium-level route covers about 5 km with a 500 m descent over roughly 4 hours; sturdy hiking boots, 2 litres of water and sun protection are required.
The Masca ravine is one of those walks people on Tenerife talk about long after they've done it, and going with a guide takes the guesswork out of it. You start high in the old village, then follow the gorge down through towering rock walls and twisting paths to the water some 500 metres below. It's properly steep in places and takes about four hours, so it earns its medium grading, but there's plenty of room to stop, catch your breath and take photos.
Part of the fun is the bus there and back, which becomes its own sociable affair with the group. Bring sturdy boots with good tread, two litres of water, a picnic and sun cover, plus your passport or ID. Turn up without the right kit and the operator can turn you away, so come prepared.
