Patron Saint Festival of San Pedro & Moors and Christians
Rojales' biggest annual celebration, with around 60 activities over more than two weeks: the opening proclamation, religious acts in honour of Saint Peter, the popular 'barracas' party tents, the climb to Cabezo Soler and the colourful Moors and Christians festivities. A lively mix of tradition, music and street life across the whole town.
For a fortnight either side of San Pedro's feast day, Rojales hands the whole town over to its summer fiesta. It opens loudly: a correfoc winds through the streets trailing sparks, a bonfire is lit, and the chupinazo rocket sets the rest in motion. Down by the Malecón del Soto you'll find the barracas, the food-and-drink tents where locals gather late into the night, and there's a traditional early-morning climb up Cabezo Soler if you fancy stretching your legs.
The Moors and Christians is the part most visitors come back for, with costumed companies parading into town behind brass bands and mock powder battles cracking the air. Roughly sixty events are scattered across the two weeks, so it's worth picking a couple of dates rather than trying to catch everything. Street events are free.
