Sant Joan Night: Bonfire, Concert and Fireworks
The traditional Catalan Midsummer (Sant Joan) celebration on the Empuriabrava seafront, with a bonfire lighting, live concert and a fireworks display over the water. One of the biggest party nights of the Spanish summer - open to all, no ticket needed.
Sant Joan is Catalonia's shortest night, and Empuriabrava marks it the old way: a bonfire on the beach, a band playing late into the dark, and fireworks cracking out over the water. Things get going around 8pm on the seafront promenade and run close to midnight, so there's time to eat first and wander down once the light starts to go.
It's a proper local night rather than a tourist show. Expect families staking out spots on the sand, kids waving sparklers, and the usual Sant Joan habit of cava and slices of coca, the sweet flatbread everyone brings out for Midsummer. Nothing to book and nothing to pay. Get there before the bonfire is lit if you want a decent view of the fireworks reflecting off the bay.
