52nd Moguer Flamenco Festival
Moguer's flagship flamenco night, now in its 52nd edition, brings together top cante and dance artists including Antonio Reyes, Sandra Carrasco, local singer Rafael Núñez 'El Talega' and dancer María Moreno. A preceding 'Semana Flamenca' adds talks, screenings and recitals.
Moguer is a small whitewashed town in Huelva province, better known for poet Juan Ramón Jiménez than for crowds, which makes its long-running flamenco festival feel like a proper local affair rather than a tourist set-piece. This is the 52nd edition, so the town knows how to do it. The main night gathers serious names: cantaor Antonio Reyes, the warm-voiced Sandra Carrasco, hometown singer Rafael Núñez 'El Talega' and dancer María Moreno, whose footwork is worth the trip alone.
Before the big night, a Semana Flamenca fills the week with talks, screenings and smaller recitals, so you can ease in rather than arriving cold. It runs each July. Sung in Spanish, of course, but the cante carries even if you don't follow every word.
