Perseid Meteor Shower Stargazing at Torre Ebri
A guided night-time stargazing expedition to the heights around Torre Ebri to watch the Perseid meteor shower away from coastal light pollution. A small-group experience with the Alcossebre Sea Experience guides.
The Spanish call the Perseids the Tears of San Lorenzo, and August is when they put on their best show. To see them properly you need to get away from the coast and its glow, which is exactly what this walk does. You meet at the El Pinar car park at 10pm and climb roughly 5km up into the Sierra de Irta, finishing at Torre Ebri, an old watchtower set high on the ridge with one of the widest views in the region.
It's about three hours all in, and the climb is moderate rather than gentle, so bring proper shoes, a torch, water and a layer for the cooler air up top. Once you're there the guides help you pick out the shooting stars as they streak across the summer sky. Numbers are kept small, and you pay by card on the night.
