Sant Pere Maritime Fiesta in La Ribera de Cabanes
A 10-day seaside fiesta in the fishing village of La Ribera honouring Saint Peter, the patron of fishermen. The big day on 29 June brings a beach pilgrimage to Torre de la Sal, a boat procession of the saint out at sea, a maritime mass and a communal sardine roast (torra), alongside live music, paella contests and evening dances all week.
This is the fishermen's village doing what it does best: throwing a long, sea-facing party for its patron saint. The heart of it lands on 29 June, when villagers walk down to the beach at Torre de la Sal for the romería, then load Saint Peter's image onto a boat and carry him out across the water. There's a mass said by the shore, traditional dancing, and a torrà popular where sardines are grilled in the open air for everyone to share.
The other nine days are looser and louder. Expect paella and dessert contests, brotherhood dinners along the front, live orchestras and the odd flamenco act, plus late discomóvil sessions and fireworks to close things off. Daytimes are aimed at kids, with foam parties and a scaled-down bull run. Bull-related events run through the week too, so be aware. Most of it is free.
