Fiestas de Nuestra Señora de La Paz (Patron Festival)
El Pinar's ten-day patron-saint festival honouring Nuestra Señora de La Paz, packed with open-air dances, a craft and traditions market, sports, children's activities and the central mass and procession on 12 September. It is the village's biggest annual celebration and a relaxed window into traditional El Hierro life.
El Pinar gives over the better part of two weeks to its patron saint, and the village more or less runs on festival time. Plaza Matías Padrón Montero fills with open-air dances backed by orchestras like La Sabrosa, while later nights hand over to DJs. Around that there's Canarian wrestling, a 3x3 football tournament, archery and a vertical race up from Las Playas, plus daft, fun stuff like bubble football and water inflatables for the kids. Theatre and comedy turns get the early evenings going.
The heart of it falls on 12 September, with a vigil the night before and then the midday mass and a procession through the streets, dancers following behind. There's a hike up to the Hoya del Morcillo earlier in the run, and over in Tanajara a gathering built around the municipality's own produce from land and sea. It's small, unhurried, and a genuine look at how El Hierro celebrates. Entry is free throughout.
