15th Taucho Ethnographic Days: Memories of Water
A two-day cultural gathering in the mountain hamlet of Taucho celebrating Adeje's water heritage, with live music by Grupo Mesturao, a rapid-painting contest capturing 'corners of Taucho', artisan stalls and a guided walk recreating local customs and traditions. A genuine off-the-beaten-track village experience away from the resort coast.
Taucho sits up in the hills above Adeje, well clear of the resort strip, and for two days it turns its attention to water and how the village once depended on it. Friday evening opens at the El Almácigo cultural centre with a tribute, a talk on the historian's book about Adeje's old waters, and a set from local band Grupo Mesturao. Saturday is the fuller day: painters arrive early to register for the quick-painting contest, working up their corners of Taucho before the afternoon judging.
Artisan stalls open mid-morning, and at eleven there's a guided walk where village elders and cultural groups act out old customs and trades. It's small, unhurried and free, and the Canarian you'll hear is the real thing. Bring decent shoes for the lanes.
